Social Media Overstimulation

13 Oct

Social Media OverstimulationI’ve been thinking about this a lot lately. But it wasn’t until I watched the video below that I decided to actually talk about it here on SGL . I am on some sort of technology a lot lately – whether it’s my ‘smart’ phone, laptop or tv – and I’m not too fond of that! I know that a lot of it is because of my health, with having so little ability to get out and do things, the lure of internet is strong.

But I want to fight back a bit against it. I want to pick up my crocheting again. I want to write more (which, I realize is still on the laptop, but it’s not surfing through pinterest….) I want to write letters to my friends. I want to start that challah bread cover I have plans for. I want to learn calligraphy. I could even get adventurous and pick up the guitar I own. Once we move, I can start piano again too (- currently it resides in my parents’ house).

To put it simply – I want to be present in my own life. I want to go toward the goals I have!

I am not saying I’m going to cut myself off completely from all the things I do online, after all I’ve got this blog and that requires not only writing each post but then the promotion that takes an awful lot of time each week. I am also a part of a writing group and contemplating joining another creative group. I enjoy these groups that encourage me to create, to work on my craft and push me toward the goal of creating an income for myself.

Some of you might have seen this video already, but I encourage you to watch it anyway. I have seen others like this, but I enjoy this one as it rhymes and that makes me happy, always. (why do you think I love Dr. Seuss?? )

can we auto-correct humanity?

Pinterest Workout Challenge #2

Pinterest Workout Challenge

Well, it has been two weeks and I am a little disappointed with myself at how many days I have missed. =(  I would do good for a few days and then sleep in….. or forget…. Sigh. So I have made a little list of what I need to improve on:

~ have workout clothes ready for the morning

~ workout even when my OH is home

~ Get up around the same time every morning

Honestly, I think getting up and working out when my OH is home is going to be the most difficult one! He is only home 3 days a week right now, so I always want to laze about with him instead of lacing up my shoes and working out. But I’ve simply got to. This week, my mom and I have been meeting each morning and walking with our dogs. We walk about 3 miles. Woot!  But I want to also do a workout. . . . I was thinking of continuing the leg workout, but how boring is that when I’ve got a bunch of different leg workout pinned? So, I am going to come back to that one some day and try this new one.

Trim Your Inner Thighs in 15 Minutes

Ironically, this one has the same moves as the first workout I chose, with a few more added in. So, the goal is to do this before/after I walk with my mom! As this isn’t a stated ‘in 2 weeks’ workout, I am thinking I will set it a goal for myself. 2 weeks and stick with it.

Are you joining me this week in the workout challenge? What workout are you doing?

14 day challenge

Today, I am starting a new series “Pinterest Workout Challenge”   Where I am going to pick from the numerous workouts on my Pinterest board and, well, do them! Because we all do it – we pin these great workouts that promise outstanding results and then. . . .look at them a few months later and think, “I really should do this.” So, while I’ve been thinking this series idea over, I hadn’t set a date of when to start it until I got up this morning and did this workout!

14 Day Lean Legs Challenge

Now, when I was younger, it was rare to see me wear shorts. Ever. If I did, they were long…. to my knees. I hated my legs. They were/are blind-you-every-time-you-look-at-them white and the opposite of what my friend terms her legs as ‘chicken legs’. I have always been super sensitive about  the fact that I have stretch marks on my thighs and that when I sit down, my thighs look twice as big as they actually are. These past few summers I have gotten better about wearing shorts – realizing that I’m the only one who sees my legs in such a negative way.  Driving around with my OH over the weekend, I told him I want ‘runner’s legs.’ Now, while I had to explain what that meant to him, I’m sure all you ladies understand what I mean by that. Firm. Shaped. Fit. Tanned. I know I might have to give up that last description but that’s my goal!  I want to be fit overall but for this next two weeks I am going to focus on my legs.

Our house has no carpet, only linoleum so I try to avoid workouts that require laying down. . .which limits me of course. But I am excited to commit myself to this challenge!  Check out the workout – it’s super easy – I will say I’m not too keen on some of the photos on this site (while they aren’t horrible, they show a little too much for my taste)  but I just scroll down away from the photo.

To check out my pinterest board, click  here. If you want to join me, that’d be great! Ok, here’s the hard part, I’m going to show you a photo of day 1, so I (we) can see if anything changes by the end of the two weeks! Day 1
