Monthly Goals: June 2017

Heeeellooooo doctor appointments and couch! Goodness, I feel like that’s most of what I did in May.

EDIT Amelia book til ready for a professional editor.  – Still in the midst of writing a longer, more detailed, makes-more-sense-to-the-story scene. I also had a brilliant light-bulb idea that I’m gonna add!!

Make writing a habit most every day –  nope

Grow SGL’s Traffic –  I’m actually gonna take this goal off for a while and change it back to ‘get on a regular posting schedule’ =)

Lose weight/get healthier – I’ve actually lost almost 2 lbs this month! That’s huge for me

Read more books on Jewish living –  I’ve finally finished Messianic Jewish Manifesto by David H. Stern. Come back for a review of it!

Write a letter to one person a month –nope

Try a new recipe – if you follow me on Instagram, you know about my new obsession – Creamy Chocolate Shake. (I’m drinking one right now in fact) This yummy shake hides healthy fats and vitamins. You’ve gotta try it! (just in case you’re curious, yes I’m still in love with smoothie bowls and have one every morning.

Watch/Read a Documentary – I watched another Gordon Buchanan show, this one was Gorilla Family and Me. I also read Julia Child’s book “My Life in Paris” which was thoroughly enjoyable. (watch for a full review coming!)

Edit the heck out of Amelia’s story  – just a few days

Be stricter on NO SUGAR and more veggies/juice – I’ve done Great on this one guys. I haven’t knowingly had processed sugar more than once in may! And my veggie/fruit intake has increased.

Finish gallery wall –  finally! There’s some more I’d like to do with it but I like how it is now so I’m moving on

Start a container garden – Due to increasing medical bills I think I’m gonna give up on this idea this year. Might get a few herbs on my counter but that’s it.

Get my hair trimmed – nope

Watch Under Our Skin 2 – I found out you have to rent it on amazon and I’m so frugal that I just couldn’t bring myself to do it.

Finish crochet projects – YES! and they turned out so cute.

Go through at least 2 areas and declutter – Busted this out right away due to dealing with mice again. Went through and majorly cleaned my office and laundry room

Go on a DATE with OH – technically it was in June, but I’m counting it!

It’s seriously halfway through the year already! I want to do a quick ‘Goal Check-in’ this month. Here’s my 2017 Goal list.  Since I’ve been updating every month on my regular goals, I’m just going to talk about my BIG goals right now. Which are:

~get my first book published this year  

~ Have my second book written in full  

~Lose weight/get healthier

So. I’ve barely been able to edit my first book and I’ve only just started my second one. And that is because of the struggles of the third goal. Augh. It’s frustrating but can’t be helped. I’m really hoping that I find something that helps soon so that I can get back to writing because I really miss it. I’m bummed about this because I had high hopes to get published this year. Anyway, moving on…

June Goals:

Start 21-day detox

Get Hair Trimmed – have an appointment for when I’m in Bend!

Finish next set of crochet projects

Go through 2 areas and de-clutter

Schedule landlord/landscaper to clean up our sad yard?

VACATION!

Monthly Goals : May

4 May

April was full of stress and pain and I’m honestly glad to see it gone. Another perk is that flowers and trees are blooming and the air smells wonderfully like spring (until you pass a ‘grower’s’ house and then it’s awful. but anyway.) I printed out my goals and affixed them to my laptop so I saw them several times a day – it helped so much in reminding me to do them .  . . or to at least think about doing them.

EDIT Amelia book til ready for a professional editor.  – For the first 2 weeks of the month I did good on this. In the midst of writing a longer, more detailed, makes-more-sense-to-the-story scene.

Make writing a habit most every day –  The first 2 weeks were spot on!

Grow SGL’s Traffic – nope. I’ve not even kept up with 2 posts a week, much less worried about growing SGL! – working on it

Lose weight/get healthier – I’ve actually started gaining again – check out my health update for more info

Read more books on Jewish living –  I’m halfway through Messianic Jewish Manifesto by David H. Stern.

Write a letter to one person a month – yes!!!

Try a new recipe – YOU GUYS.  I rocked this one this month. My parents got me a Spiralizer attachment for my Kitchenaid. So, because of that I made : Garlic Parmesan Zucchini Pasta (I added a bunch of veggies and chicken and then we put it on cauli-rice). I actually made it twice this month –  it’s now going to be a regular meal. Plus, I made Spicy Chicken and Eggplant Stir-fry (this was yummy but make sure and use a japanese eggplant like it calls for.) Below is a video of my  OH working on the charoset we made for Pesach – this thing is BRILLIANT. Plus I made bone broth for the first time yesterday although that was technically in May….all well

 

Watch/Read a Documentary/Biography – I watched Gordon Buchanan’s  Elephant Family and Me on Netflix. I enjoyed it so much, I then watched Polar Bear Family and Me.  He’s done a bunch of these documentaries that I fully intend on watching. Plus Abby enjoys them too

Be stricter on NO SUGAR and more veggies/juice – the last few weeks I have. Even got my OH to stop bringing home sugar-filled items this past week. Plus I’ve definitely increased my veggies and juice intake!

Go to Craniosacrial chiropractor appt –  did this times 5 times 

plan a stay-cation for our 4th anniversary – This didn’t happen. I was in severe neurological pain and OH was sick. I ordered take-out (through Grubhub) , he rented some movies from Redbox, we ate and he fell asleep while I watched a movie. All well. We were both home and together, that’s what matters! 

I tried a few cleaning tricks that are BRILLIANT and I just had to share them with you.  Natural alternative to bleach (this got our duvet cover CLEAN) and Erase Stains from Mugs (this seriously worked on all 4 mugs I tried it out on) and Cleaning your Dishwasher  (I’d done this before, works great!)

~A lot of the stress of April was been car-related. OH’s car was full of mold. The Subaru started smoking and rattling worse than ever and had to go to the shop. The Bug blew a belt. The puppies enjoyed the morning OH was working on the Bug as they got to hang out front with us.

~I’ve been wanting this book and this book for a while now, I might end up buying them this month!

~I’m currently enjoying this playlist on Youtube

Monthly Goals : March

1 Mar

A month has come and gone already! Where oh where do the days go? My birthday is coming up in March – so we’ve got some fun plans for that, and I’m also hoping to get my novel edited by the end of march! Big plans. Big plans.

 EDIT Amelia book til ready for a professional editor. – I finally read all the way through it- getting it into my head as a story rather than different scenes all mixed up – and have gotten some editing done. Hit a major frustration that has killed all motivation to work on it. Hoping to get back at it this week though! – sorta WIN

~  PLOT/create Story Board– Finished this a few weeks ago! I’m so proud of it. -WIN

~Lose weight/get healthier –  I have tried to eat healthy this month but it’s not gone too well. The typical .5 lb loss and then gain has happened. – FAIL

Make writing a habit most every day –  Even saying it’s almost every day is probably a stretch. I’ve started writing Georgia’s story, have about 3k words on it (!), but pain and focusing have made it hard to write, or even to want to. – Sorta WIN

Grow SGL’s Traffic – once again, haven’t worried about this yet.  – FAIL

Read more books on Jewish living – not at all! haven’t even picked up Messianic Jewish Manifesto since I started it beginning of last month – FAIL

Write a letter to one person a month – Yes! I wrote a lovely little letter to a lovely person. snail mail makes me happy.  – WIN

Try a new recipe – once again in the Against All Grain cookbook, I made the Basil-Thyme Vinaigrette. It was super yummy , even though I didn’t have a few of the ingredients. Only negative side is that the coconut oil hardens, so you have to warm it up before each use. Also tried a White Bean and Chicken Chili recipe that was sub-par, even after I tried to bring some life to it. Disappointing.  – WIN

Watch/Read a Documentary/Biography –  Just finished  Failure is Impossible:Susan B. Anthony in her own words by Lynn Sherr. It’s  a collection of Anthony’s letters, speeches, diary entries and articles. It’s well put together and I’m collecting a LOT of info for my book I’m starting – WIN

Learn Hebrew- I added this one mid-month. It’s something I’ve been wanting to do the past few years but have only ever given a cursory glance at it. Thankfully, my OH still has the books he learned in, so I’m able to do this without buying anything! I’ve started Hebrew in 10 minutes a Day, and worked on memorizing the alphabet with some pretty sweet flash cards. I’m not staying on top of it every day but I’m trying to several times a week. – WIN

~I did survive my dentist appointment, but came away with some disheartening news that I’ll share in my Feb health update (probably next week).

~Not sure I’ve spoiled my OH like I was hoping to. The biggest thing I’ve been focusing on is trying to keep him supplied with juice. And keeping Abby away from him so he can nap on the weekends.

This month I want to:

Find a local charity that accepts knitted/crocheted items – anyone have suggestions?

Monthly Goals: February

Happy February everyone! I hope the weather has calmed down a bit for everyone, or if not, that you’re well stocked on hot chocolate. It’s been nice enough this past week that I’ve been able to get the dogs to the dog park, whew! Abby was going stir crazy not getting to run.

I’ve decided I want to share how I did on my monthly goals – remember this post?  And then share what my goals are for the coming month. I feel pretty good about January, especially since most of it was spent feeling absolutely miserable.

~ get my first book published this year – to break this down into littler steps,  EDIT til ready for a professional editor. – Right now, I’m  waiting to get it back from my first two beta readers, so I can editeditedit it. I’m enjoying the bit of a break from working on it though!

~ Have my second book written in full – Broken down into littler steps : PLOT/create Story Board–  I’ve made good strides in plotting it! I’m just starting to put together my plot board, I’m REALLY hoping to finish it this week. -WIN

~Lose weight/get healthier –  I lost 5 lbs…and then gained them back all last month. SO. I know I can lose some, it’s just remaining super strict on my eating habits when I’m feeling awful. Even if I can’t work out, I need to still juice and avoid sugar.  – HALF WIN?

Make writing a habit most every day – as I’ve been plotting, I haven’t officially written but I’d still say I met this one as I plotted several days each week. – WIN

Grow SGL’s Traffic – meh, I haven’t focused on it too much yet. Although I am planning on joining a few linkups each month now ( joined a book review one earlier this week in fact, go check it out!)

Read more books on Jewish living – I’ve started Messianic Jewish Manifesto but haven’t gotten in very far. -SORTA WIN?

Try a new recipe – I made four this month from Against All Grains. Only remembered to take a picture of the Braised Chicken in Artichoke and Mushroom Sauce though! The sesame chicken was good, even make the Cauli-Rice to go with it! Now, the  Banana Bread I made yesterday did NOT turn out. But, I didn’t follow the recipe exactly…It calls for 4 eggs and in Duck Egg land, that equals about $5. Not gonna happen. So I used egg replacer and it did not bake fully. I’m hoping to ‘slice’ it and fry it in the skillet to see if it’ll finish cooking so I don’t have to throw it away. So far, I’m loving this cookbook – WIN

Watch/Read a documentary/biography: I watched the Kirk Cameron film, Monumental, on Inauguration Day. (I’d like to say that I planned that but totally didn’t.) I enjoyed it a lot! -WIN

As for my goals for February, it’s just to keep going through this list, all I’m adding is ‘survive dentist appointment’ and ‘find ways to spoil OH’.
