February Recap and March Goals 2018

February was a pretty good month for me and I did so much more than I normally am able to. This doesn’t mean that I busted out all of my goals (if only!) but I am still quite happy with everything I accomplished.

Recap of Monthly Goals:

Watch/Read a documentary/biography : I’m still reading Amazing Grace: William Wilberforce and the amazing campaign to end slavery by Eric Metaxas.

Try a new recipe: Once again I made a few recipes from the Eating Clean cookbook (Tomato Soup, veggie burgers and the Everything but the Gluten cookies. I also just made the mock mayo yesterday). I also made Lemon Coconut Bars ( pretty yummy even though they weren’t what I was expecting) and Chicken Spinach Meatballs (didn’t add the parmesan cheese of course).

Write one letter a month

Read theology/marriage/bible study book: I have started Biblically Kosher: A Messianic Jewish Perspective on Kashrut by Aaron Eby

Edit ‘Amelia’ : I have almost finished filling out index cards for each scene

Eat healthier/lose weight : I have been able to clean up my eating even more

Post Regularly – In keeping with one post a week, I have been able to.

February’s Goals:

Couch and box springs to the dump – NOPE. Augh

Clean Oven –  I did scrub the door and a quick wipe down on the rest. So I’m counting it

Finish dusting house – I did dust a few of the blinds!

Workout 2 days a week – I did good the first few weeks of the month! Took Abby on a walk almost every other day.

Finish crochet Camper – nope. Other projects that have/had deadlines took precedence

Index Cards for ‘Amelia’  – I’m only a few chapters from being done!!

At least 1 Thing I didn’t Think I could Do: I worked in the yard for quite a while. Baked 2 pies in one morning.

January Recap and February Goals

January was a rough start to this new year, so I’m really hoping that February is a bit more gentle and kind.

Recap of Monthly Goals:

Watch/Read a documentary/biography : I started reading Amazing Grace: William Wilberforce and the amazing campaign to end slavery by Eric Metaxas. I am enjoying it so far!

Try a new recipe: Once again I made a few recipes from the Eating Clean cookbook (pickled pears and apples and the pancakes). I also sort of followed the lamb meatballs recipe in Against All Grain cookbook. I followed the spicing and marinating of the ground lamb. But, ended up using it as spaghetti meat instead of turning it into meatballs. It had such good flavor.

Write one letter a month

Read theology/marriage/bible study book: I am still reading The Supernatural Ways of Royalty by Kris Vallotton (mixed feelings on it so far).

Edit ‘Amelia’ : I finished my read-through on the 20th!

Eat healthier/lose weight : I have been able to clean up my eating a lot and have gotten back to the weight I was at the beginning of the month

Post Regularly – I’m starting to think that I need to change my posting goals. As much as I want to focus on posting two times a week, I want to focus on editing my book and often I’ll find myself posting instead of doing that. So… an adjustment of goals just might be in order.

Workout 2 days a week  I’ve  been able to walk Abby a few times each week!

1 thing I didn’t think I could do:  I did 3 quick trips to the grocery store with a BASKET rather than a cart. I haven’t been able to heft a basket around a store in about a year.

I also just got back from a quick trip to Bend – and I did really well with a super busy 2 days that I couldn’t have done months ago. Woot!

December Recap and January Goals

I’ll admit to wondering about continuing these monthly goals posts but I have enjoyed how they keep me focused on what I want to cultivate in my life. Writing. Learning. Health.

I have read a lot about choosing a word for the year and I’ve mulled it over a little bit. I’m hoping to pick one out by the end of this month and then I’ll share it with you next month!

Lose weight/work toward health –   I didn’t lose any weight but am making tiny steps toward being healthier- check out my health update for more info.

Read more books on Jewish living –  Once again, they aren’t books on Jewish living. But, I finished For Men Only (a review is coming this month!) and have started The Supernatural Ways of Royalty by Kris Vallotton (mixed feelings on it so far)

Write a letter to one person a month  

Try a new recipe – I made a few from the Eating Clean by Amie Valpone cookbook.

Watch/Read a documentary/biography – I so want to see the new movie about Vincent Van Gogh’s life! Maybe this month..?

Totally busted out all my December goals in the first few weeks of the month, well except for donating the stuff to the thrift store, that one took me a while longer. But, I was so proud of myself. But now onto my goals for January!

I feel so behind already this month friends! Along with that, I feel very unmotivated to write, which is sad since I really wanted to be further along in editing my novel.

Try a new recipe – Sweet Potato Soup –it was so delicious! I really want to make it again. I also tried a new granola bars recipe but I can’t remember where I got it from.

Watch/Read a documentary/biography – The Painting Life of Vincent Van Gogh. ~Now, you might not know this about me, but I am a huge fan of Van Gogh’s paintings. I have a dream of going to see an exhibit of his somewhere, someday. Anyway, this documentary was interesting and told so much about where he got his inspiration from. Also, I really want to go see this movie they made about him

Nov Goals:

Finish Cleaning Laundry Room – It was technically in Dec that I finished it but since it was before this post went up, I’m counting it.

NANOWRIMO – yes yes and yes! I busted through my entire manuscript in the first few weeks. Writing tons of notes, marking where new scenes need to go, etc. The last two weeks, I started going through it again but didn’t get very far

Donate stuff to thrift store – nope. I’m going through a bit more stuff before I do

1 thing I did that I didn’t think I could: I got up the gumption to call the disability lawyer again and am having them help me with all the insanity of trying to get approved for disability

It’s that time again – checking in to see how I did on my goals in October and setting new ones for November. Plus, you guys – it’s almost Thanksgiving!

Recap of Monthly Goals:

Integrate new scene into ‘Amelia’ WELL. I changed this to ‘start editing whole manuscript’. I PRINTED IT. (so exciting) and have been working my way through it.

Post Regularly – I missed about three posts last month.

Lose weight/work toward health –  crossing this one off because I have made some improvements in my health. A new health update should be up soon!

Read more books on Jewish living –  I’m currently reading Jewish Roots by Dan Juster. I also went through the 4-week Bible Study called Rest and Release.

Write a letter to one person a month  – yes!

Try a new recipe – Pumpkin Bread with Chai Coconut Glaze from theroastedroot.com  – it was yummy and moist but we weren’t overall thrilled with it. It wasn’t sweet enough, or pumpkiny enough for our tastes. I was super impressed with the glaze though – yum! I also made the Grain-Free Waffles from Against All grains.

Watch/Read a documentary/biography – I watched part off Hidden Killers of Edwardian and Victorian Homes. It was really interesting and I plan on watching the other two episodes.

Because of Nanowrimo, at least one trip to Bend, and at least three doctor appointments plus a lab to do, I am keeping November’s goals light. One other thing to note, in case you don’t follow me on Instagram (click on photos on the right from IG and it’ll take you there!), we lost our beloved 12 year old golden, Lady, on the 21st of October. It was sudden and shocking and we miss her so very much.

It has shaken me up so much that I just couldn’t write here, or edit my novel, for about a week. We buried her on my parent’s property and I head there soon to ‘check on her’ one more time before winter sets in.

I have a feeling that my novel is going to get several new scenes that are sad while I do Nanowrimo this month (if you aren’t sure what I keep referring to, I explain it here). Which a book can always use! (although, I will admit that I’m reading a novel right now that I am struggling to get through because bad things keep happening the the MC. . . I keep muttering to the author ‘if such and such happens, I’m not going to keep reading’… but since it’s a book that I got free for a review, I am. I am assuming that by the end, I’ll like it…??) Anyway, if you’re doing nano, I’m dreaminagain on the nano site.

Monthly Goals Link-up : Oct. 2017

You guys! It’s officially fall! Okay, okay, I know it has been for over a week now but I’m celebrating it now. I woke up with a craving for pumpkin muffins this morning, so that’s going to hopefully happen this week.

I got to go to Bend in September to meet my newest nephew. (have I told you guys this already?) I made it a point to get to see all of my nieces and nephews that are in town this trip. Family was the priority this go-round.

I have done pretty well on my goals this past month, well…On the ones that I knew I’d do. If that makes sense. Anyway, let’s just hop to it, shall we?

Try a new recipe – Mostly this month I’ve thrown meals together but I did make 2 from Against All Grains – the Banana Pancakes and Vanilla Granola. I most likely fudged both recipes, making them with things I had on hand, rather than following them exactly. But they both were yummy and I really want to make the granola again. It was the first time I’d made soaked-nut granola, also oat-free and I loved it!

Watch/Read a documentary/biography – I watched part of Gordon Buchanan’s Tribes Animals and Me.

 

Recap of Sept goals:

Finish Adirondack Chair before the rains come – nope and I doubt now that it’ll get any work done on it until spring/summer next year. For now, it’s sitting in my office. Sad.

Work on Disability – I did call a disability lawyer beginning of this month but haven’t heard back from them. I haven’t called them back either though soo….

Scrapbook Laura’s visit – I’m 3/4 of the way done with it!

Deep Clean bedroom – we bought a bed frame finally! Getting that really helped give me the motivation to finish cleaning the room.

Two things I didn’t think I could do, but I did!

~Drove to a friends’ house and back – that equals an hr drive! I was so excited that I was able to do this!

~Drove to Bend and back! – it’s 3 hours one way so I was nervous about it but I did fine!

Monthly Goals Link-Up: Sept 2017

I can’t quite believe it yet, but we’re into September folks. Which means, for our household, we are only a few weeks away from the High Holy Days and OH starting up classes again at OIT. Bless me, but I’m not ready to have him gone a few nights a week again! He’s done with this degree come the end of winter term though, so I know I will survive! (plus, I’m not the one stuck doing homework all hours of the night.)

It’s staying hot here though, and my OH just stuck his head in the door to tell me that ash is falling. ASH. From the 15 or so forest fires that are burning this state up.

I’m looking forward to cooler weather – before the rains come – when I can step outside without getting hit with heat and humidity. Humidity just sucks any sort of feeling-slightly-human right out of me.

Anyway, August went by quickly, as I knew it would with all the things we had planned. Although, some were cancelled because both dogs have been fighting hot spots for about two months now and they just can’t go out in public when they’ve got open, raw sores. Poor things.

As for my goal list this month, I did pretty well. I’m pleased with what I was able to get done -even if it wasn’t on this list. Like travel 3 hrs to Bend, sit through a fantastic performance of Willy Wonka, then go on to hang out with friends and family the rest of the day without totally and completely crashing like I thought I was going to.

Try a new recipe – I made a recipe from my Eating Clean cookbook – No-Eggplant Garden Herb Ratatouille. It was good but I over-cooked the veggies, resulting in what felt like a stir-fry. I also made 2 recipes  from Against All Grain’s Meals Made Simple, Peruvian Style Chicken and Chicken Verde. Both were good but I think I liked the Peruvian Style best.

Watch/Read a documentary/biography – I watched Bear Family and Me by Gordon Buchanan. (I’m really going to be bummed when I watch all of his shows!)

Recap of August Goals:

Finish Detox – I mostly did this. I detoxed for 12 days when I was shooting for 14.

Sand Adirondack Chair – Due to my Fibromyalgia, I am not able to do this as often as I would like. I did work on it a few times this month though.

Apply for Disability – GAH. This is the biggest frustration of August. Long story that’s still not finished.

Do Lil Laura’s Scrapbook of their visit – ha. so I had to order the pictures printed twice…. I am currently waiting for them to arrive so I can scrapbook them!

I’ve just decided that I want to write down at least one thing that I didn’t think I’d be able to do. Even if it’s ‘walk the dogs’ – ‘go grocery shopping’ – ‘make it through doctor appointment’ —etc. I want a visible reminder that, even if it wasn’t on this goals list, I accomplished something I wasn’t sure my body would let me do. (I’ll admit to thinking that finishing the adirondack chair will be this months)

Monthly Goals Link up: August 2017

Hello lovelies! I did rather well on my goals this month, I hope you did as well! I feel like several have turned into habits (which is the whole point eh?). I had a friend and her daughter over mid-month and that was so much fun – along with doctor visits, I’ve been kept busy.  I’m gonna add some pictures of their visit on here because I just can’t resist.

Finish writing new scene in ‘Amelia’ – YES! My OH bought me Dragon speech recognition software just this past weekend and it’s helping me get my handwritten scene typed up to integrate it into my manuscript.

Post Regularly – I’ve noticed it seems to be the 3rd week of the month that I struggle with…

Lose weight/work toward health – I’ve been able to figure a few things out and lose some weight as well!

Read more books on Jewish living –  It’s not Jewish, but I’m reading Boundaries by Dr. Henry Cloud and Dr. John Townsend

Write a letter to one person a month  –  counting calling ppl instead of writing them

Try a new recipe – I made two recipes from my Eating Clean cookbook – The Warm Cleansing Tea (fennel seeds, cumin seeds, coriander seeds) and the Coastal Carrot ‘Fettuccine’ ( the carrots are ‘ribboned’ to be the noodles) and Rosemary Roasted Carrots and Beets. All three were delicious. The tea makes several servings so I put the leftovers in my fridge and used them in my morning smoothies! I had difficulties ribboning the carrots but the dish was quite tasty anyway. And the roasted beets and carrots. YUM. I’m definitely making that one again very soon.

Watch/Read a documentary/biography –  Finished watching Gordon Buchanan’s Snow Wolf Family and Me.

At Pittock Mansion

Recap of July Goals:

Start 21 Day Detox – so this detox is from the Eating Clean cookbook that I mentioned above. While I haven’t gone as strict as I wanted to, I’ve decided to just do it but for two weeks instead of  three. I’m eating very strict and have removed as much toxins as I can right now. SO. I’m currently on day 4!

Go through 2 areas and clean – Just the other day I went through OH’s half of the  closet and pulled out the dead, the dying and the never-worn. And then straightened up the whole closet and part of my dresser. I’m gonna count that as two!

Schedule landlord to clean up yard?  – My OH is doing it and it’s looking great. He’s even laying down new mulch (it hasn’t been refreshed since we moved in 3 years ago). This heat wave we’re having is making him take a break on it though.

Sand/Paint Adirondack Chair – I FINALLY sanded a bit on it this past week. This project that I didn’t want to last even a week has now been sitting around for a month. OY.

~Side note : I did Camp Nanowrimo as well in July (it’s a more-relaxed verision of Naowrimo that’s in November). That’s how I managed to finally finish the scene for Amelia’s story. I’m hoping to carry that momentum into this next month and integrate that scene into the manuscript and then move onto more editing/filling in gaps.

~Another side note, in case you don’t know, Leverage is one of my favorite tv shows. It’s on Netflix. Go check it out. But! Christian Kane is one of the main actors in it (as well as in Librarians – both are filmed in Portland and have the same ‘feel’ thanks to it being the same producer. Also, these trailers make both shows look super intense but they are more comedy/drama, but I digress..) but I recently found out that he’s also a singer/songwriter. I’m loving this song and this song of his. Real country music right there. ( I have to add that I just got so distracted watching gag reels and such for both these shows on netflix just to get these links!)

Monthly Goals: July 2017

Hello lovelies! June passed so quickly didn’t it?! I feel like it was really only two weeks, the way it blasted by. My OH finished up spring term and is taking summer term off – we’re both looking forward to the break! Haven’t seen much of him these past two terms. I didn’t meet a lot of my goals in June because of my health but I’m excited that every month I’ve tried a few different recipes!

On to the goals!

Try a new recipe – Once again, I have been trying recipes from Against All Grain, this time from her Meals Made Simple book – Peruvian Style Chicken, Meatloaf and Chocolate shake (with spinach not avocado). All three were yummy! I’m loving this new cookbook.

Watch/Read a documentary/biography – I started watching another Gordon Buchanan show – Snow Wolf Family and Me. Abby and I love watching it.

Start 21-day detox – no but I have been strict on my diet – limited starch, no processed sugar

Get my hair trimmed – Finally! I cut 6 inches off and it feels so good and healthy again

Schedule landlord to clean up yard – no but I’m still hoping to. So maybe this month?

Heeeellooooo doctor appointments and couch! Goodness, I feel like that’s most of what I did in May.

EDIT Amelia book til ready for a professional editor.  – Still in the midst of writing a longer, more detailed, makes-more-sense-to-the-story scene. I also had a brilliant light-bulb idea that I’m gonna add!!

Make writing a habit most every day –  nope

Grow SGL’s Traffic –  I’m actually gonna take this goal off for a while and change it back to ‘get on a regular posting schedule’ =)

Lose weight/get healthier – I’ve actually lost almost 2 lbs this month! That’s huge for me

Read more books on Jewish living –  I’ve finally finished Messianic Jewish Manifesto by David H. Stern. Come back for a review of it!

Write a letter to one person a month –nope

Try a new recipe – if you follow me on Instagram, you know about my new obsession – Creamy Chocolate Shake. (I’m drinking one right now in fact) This yummy shake hides healthy fats and vitamins. You’ve gotta try it! (just in case you’re curious, yes I’m still in love with smoothie bowls and have one every morning.

Watch/Read a Documentary – I watched another Gordon Buchanan show, this one was Gorilla Family and Me. I also read Julia Child’s book “My Life in Paris” which was thoroughly enjoyable. (watch for a full review coming!)

Recap of May’s goals:

Edit the heck out of Amelia’s story  – just a few days

Be stricter on NO SUGAR and more veggies/juice – I’ve done Great on this one guys. I haven’t knowingly had processed sugar more than once in may! And my veggie/fruit intake has increased.

Finish gallery wall –  finally! There’s some more I’d like to do with it but I like how it is now so I’m moving on

Start a container garden – Due to increasing medical bills I think I’m gonna give up on this idea this year. Might get a few herbs on my counter but that’s it.

Get my hair trimmed – nope

Watch Under Our Skin 2 – I found out you have to rent it on amazon and I’m so frugal that I just couldn’t bring myself to do it.

Finish crochet projects – YES! and they turned out so cute.

Go through at least 2 areas and declutter – Busted this out right away due to dealing with mice again. Went through and majorly cleaned my office and laundry room

Go on a DATE with OH – technically it was in June, but I’m counting it!

It’s seriously halfway through the year already! I want to do a quick ‘Goal Check-in’ this month. Here’s my 2017 Goal list.  Since I’ve been updating every month on my regular goals, I’m just going to talk about my BIG goals right now. Which are:

~get my first book published this year  

~ Have my second book written in full  

~Lose weight/get healthier

So. I’ve barely been able to edit my first book and I’ve only just started my second one. And that is because of the struggles of the third goal. Augh. It’s frustrating but can’t be helped. I’m really hoping that I find something that helps soon so that I can get back to writing because I really miss it. I’m bummed about this because I had high hopes to get published this year. Anyway, moving on…

June Goals:

Start 21-day detox

Get Hair Trimmed – have an appointment for when I’m in Bend!

Finish next set of crochet projects

Go through 2 areas and de-clutter

Schedule landlord/landscaper to clean up our sad yard?

VACATION!
